In an incident of man-elephant conflict in India, one person was killed after he was attacked by a herd of wild elephants in Assam. According to officials, one elephant was also electrocuted in the incident.
What Happened: Officials said that they tried to scare away a herd of wild elephants from Assam’s Goalpara district on Wednesday night. The herd went on a rampage destroying at least 25 houses and killing a man, reported ANI.
The man-elephant conflict has been on the rise for some time now. The report said one elephant, too, was electrocuted after coming in contact with a live electric wire.

“One person was killed after he was attacked by wild elephants,” Forest Range Officer Dhruba Dutta told the publication.
“A herd of wild elephants has been taking shelter in the area for the past 2 months. Last night, the wild elephants entered the village, destroyed at least 25 houses, and killed a villager,” Dutta added.
This comes days after a baby jumbo chewed off mahout’s finger while being fed in the Indian state of Kerala. The incident occured when the man was feeding and giving medicines to a calf identified as Aranya, who was recently brought to the rehabilitation center from Kottur forests after the mother elephant was found dead a few months ago.
