Former first lady Melania Trump was worried about unannounced visitors at the White House residence and the bad advice Donald Trump was getting from attorneys such as Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, according to a transcript of the testimony of Stephanie Grisham, her former chief of staff.
What Happened: “She hated when people would come to the residence,” said Grisham, according to the testimony, first noted in The New York Post.
Melania was upset about frequent meetings held in the Yellow Oval, a room in the residential portion of the White House.
“She was very upset because nobody would give her a heads-up and was she walking around in a robe, that type of thing. But she never gave me specific names other than Sidney Powell, Giuliani and campaign people. Those were her words,” said Grisham.
Why It Matters: “Mrs. Trump always wanted to be warned before people were coming into her house,” said Grisham to the Jan. 6 committee investigating the riots at the U.S. Capitol.
The testimony also touched on the advisors to Trump. Melania blamed former chief of staff Mark Meadows for failing to give the former U.S. leader better advice.
Grisham stated that Melania was also wary of Giuliani and Powell along with others who were “coming up to the residence and talking to the president.”
The former official revealed that Melania “started packing” when the election was called for President Joe Biden, the Saturday after Election Day.
Melania was aware of the rally on Jan. 6 and said, “There is going to be a rally and all these crazy people are telling him to do this rally, I want no part of it.”
