Karl Wells, the chief subscriptions officer at Dow Jones & Co., is leaving to becoming chief commercial officer at tech news site The Information.
The Information founder Jessica Lessin writes, “Karl knows a thing or two about subscription businesses. As chief subscriptions officer of Dow Jones, Karl built and scaled the consumer subscription businesses of The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and MarketWatch, having previously started his career in advertising. He has been managing a team of nearly 150 people (147 to be exact!), covering B2C and B2B subscriptions. He sits on the Dow Jones executive team and reports into the Dow Jones CEO. Vanity Fair called him a ‘subscription wizard,’ and I agree.
“I’m really proud of our revenue growth today—especially now when layoffs are rampant in our industry. We’re up more than 35 percent on the year, with several exciting new launches yet to come this year.
